Here is exactly what happens when you come to us for IUI treatment.
Your first visit involves a full assessment. This includes a semen analysis, a tubal test to confirm your tubes are open, hormone blood tests, and an ultrasound. Our specialists review everything before making any recommendation.
Your cycle begins on Day 2 or 3 of your period. We give you mild medication, usually tablets, to help one to three eggs develop. We monitor your progress with ultrasound scans every few days.
When the egg is ready, usually around 18 to 22 mm in size, we give a small injection to trigger ovulation at the exact right time. The IUI is then scheduled for 36 to 40 hours later.
On the day of the procedure, a semen sample is collected and processed in our laboratory. The best, most active sperm are selected and prepared for insemination. This takes about one to two hours.
A thin, soft tube called a catheter is gently passed through the cervix into the uterus. The prepared sperm is slowly released inside. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Most women feel mild cramping, similar to a period. No anaesthesia is needed.
You rest for 15 to 30 minutes and then go home. We prescribe progesterone support to help the uterine lining stay healthy during the two-week wait.
Fourteen days later, a blood test confirms whether you are pregnant. If the result is positive, we arrange an ultrasound two weeks later to confirm a healthy pregnancy. If it is negative, we review the cycle together and advise on the next step.
